Trekking to Everest Base Camp is not an easy task. What we need is experience and determination to stand on the base of the world's highest peak. Being a first timer to attempt the highest peak you should have knowledge about the mountaineering. Though, it is not compulsion to show the Mountaineering certificate to Nepal Government but for your comfort you can have a  practice trek on small hills for a month before attempting Everest.

Your initial journey starts with thrilling flight of 45 min from Kathmandu to Lukla airport, a small airport of Nepal. Lukla is the trailhead of the trek from where you start your actual trek on foot. The distance from Lukla to Everest Base camp is of 68 km which requires 8 days with minimum walk of 6 -7 hours. 8 days seems enough for trek however, don’t forget you are on trek above 8000m. Beware of altitude sickness and do follow the instructions of local sherpa.


Cost incurred in Everest Base Camp Trek

Daily expenses during the trek depends upon the days you travel and travel agency you consulting. The minimum expenses for day will be around $25 per day which includes three times meal. 

Usually, a two week package tour can cost up to $1500 per person. This includes the flight to/from Lukla, food, accommodation, permits, and cost of the guides. For an independent trekker, the cost may range from $750-$800, and please keep in mind, everything becomes more expensive as the altitude increases.
Do carry enough cash as you can find ATM booth only in Lukla and Namche Bazar. However, they are not reliable. It will be better if you have enough cash for the entire trek.

Best Time to Trek Everest Base Camp


There is no fixed time to trek Everest Base Camp. You can enjoy the beautiful peaks all year. But the most preferable season for trek are Spring(March-Maya) and Attum(September-December).
In Spring, you can witness green bushes and trees bursting into bloom with colourful rhododendrons flower adding an exquisite colour to the landscape. In Autumn you will enjoy seven hours of sunshine with biggest Hindu festivals Dashain and Tihar along with the Sherpa festival of Mani Rimdu.
