Siklis Valley Trek
Siklis trek in Kaski district has been most loved trekking
areas among trekkers, as it is one of the picturesque treks that unfold the
natural beauty in Nepal. The charming villages, intriguing patterns of terraced
fields, rhododendron forest and high alpine meadows nestled below the towering
mountains of Annapurna II (7937m) and IV (7525m) are some of the key features
of this trek. This trekking also known as royal trek as Prince Charles had a
trek through the area in 1980 to visit the villages of Gurkha recruits, as part
of an effort to develop this into a model eco-trekking route.
Sikles trek takes you to remote villages that are far from
city area. This trek is a fabulous short trek and crosses a variety of terrain
from low land villages where there is the settlement of large group of Gurung
people especially known as Ghurkhas as well as the forest full of rhododendron.
The Sikles Trek starts with drive from Pokhara to Hemja at about 20 minutes.
The trek to Sikles lies north from Pokhara. This trek passes through less
visited area of Annapurna II & Lamjung Himal massif. The trek also offers
the abundance of flora and fauna on route along with some wonderful mountains
views of the Annapurna, Manaslu, Machapuchree (Fishtail) and Lamjung.
Above the village is Rishing Danda, from where a marvelous
panoramic view of the peaks of Annapurna II and Lamjung can be seen. This place
is also famous as a point from which to see avalanches thundering down off the
mountain sides. Folk songs and dances are an important part of Gurung life and
cultural performances are common occurrences in Sikles. Of particular interest
here is the Ghantu dance, traditionally performed by three young girls.
During the trek in the area, you can have a view of Great
Mountain and rough terrain. This trekking is a spectacular short trek through
the Gurung (Gurkhas) village and dense forest. Therefore, it has been one of
the alternatives to other short treks in Annapurna region. The trekking is off
the main trails through Gurung village and takes through rice terraces and
cornfields and then cuts over a ridge clad in lush green forest and enchants by
the panoramic views of Machapuchare (fishtail peak) and other mountains lying
along the region.
