Jomsom Muktinath trek
Trekking in the Jomsom area entangles hiking through the
world’s deepest gorge- the Kaligandaki valley and exploring sky-high snow
covered mountains. It is situated north of Pokhara, at an altitude of about
2700 m where Nepal's spectacular ethnic diversity appears at its finest.
Jomsom (Nepali: जोमसोम), also known as Dzong-Sampa or New
Fort,is the centre of Gharpajhong Gaunpalika and former independent village
development committee in Mustang District, Nepal. It extends over both the
banks of the Kali Gandaki River. The terrain here is very
diverse going from the subtropical jungle to a high, dry landscape resembling
the Tibetan Plateau and everything else in between.
A Jomsom trek (north of
Pokhara) reveals Nepal's spectacular diversity. The bottomless valleys and high
mountains surrounding the giant Annapurna Himal cuddle a wide range of peoples
and terrain, from subtropical jungle to a high, dry landscape resembling the
Tibetan Plateau. The Annapurna region is the most the popular trekking area in
Nepal with plenty of trekking places, attracting over 75% of all trekkers (more
than 30,000 annually). It's also among the tamest areas, with excellent lodges
lining the main routes.
During the initial days of Jomsom Muktinath Trek, we will
be trekking through Annapurna region which ascends through rice terraces and
villages inhabited by the indigenous people and mostly Gurungs. We will have
interesting time when we reach Tatopani, to relax with natural hot springs. We
then pass through Jomsom and Kagbeni which are the entry point of upper Mustang
Region. We then will explore the holy Hindu pilgrimage site of Muktinath which
equally sacred site for Buddhists too. The sacred temple has 108 sprouts of
water. After that, we will move downhill to Jomsom where you can look around at
the gateway to the ‘Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang.’ Sure, you will have great
time trekking in Jomsom Muktinath Area during your Nepal Holidays.
